The 5 key traits of those who have a religious spirit

There are a variety of red flags seen to be evident in a religious spirit. These signs can often go overlooked and unnoticed. However when you are sealed with the Holy Spirit and begin to walk on the narrow path following Christ, you will notice some of the more prevalent behaviours within these individuals. Of course, as mentioned previously, MANY things make up someone being religious.

However, I have taken the liberty to attempt to give you just 5 signs. The sad reality is that they could be friends, family members, spouses, classmates, or colleagues.

Hint #1 - Saying NO to correction

This is an extremely toxic and very dangerous trait to see in a person or worse yourself.

WHY? Because it signifies a closed-minded approach to walking on a narrow path. The mindset that you, a sinner, cannot be corrected or reproofed in any way makes you more prone to being given over to a reprobated mind, due to the constant rejection of being shown the right way. Sitting on a high moral horse, and being right in your mind, instead of being of a good conscience in the eyes of YHWH is something that religious individuals seem to struggle with.

The wise will take heed to correction and chastisement from YHWH, as states in

Hebrews 12v11

Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Hint #2 - PAGEN PAGEN PAGEN

Another key trait of someone who is overly religious is upholding the traditions of men, something we are told not many times in the word of God.

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the traditions of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. Colossians 2v8 KJV

The catastrophic by-product of this is that many are led astray, and are not shown the true ways to have and nurture a relationship with YHWH, even worse is that they will then lead others astray with the lies they now believe.

WHY?

Because when you partake in pagan holidays that is in celebration and worship of false gods and goddesses and pagan rituals, none of which are holy, virtuous, or righteous, your mind begins to become fixated on worldly desires.

The devil will attempt to camouflage many of what the world celebrates as fun or exciting even harmless, but YHWH has warned us of this, hence why putting on the whole armour of God is so important so we can withstand the wiles of the devil.

Hin #3 - HARSH unwarranted judgement

Thirdly, the religious are very quick to judge and think they are holier than thou, and always lack to demonstrate the fruits of the Holy Spirit e.g charity, kindness, patience, humility, etc,

Due to this, these individuals are more likely to think they are better than a “sinner”, especially if they see individuals struggle with strongholds that they may not have particularly experienced and overcome. The issue with these individuals is that they are the first to throw you in the firing line and the last to offer words of encouragement or a hand to help, which means that they are not wholeheartedly a part of the brethren but instead accusers of the brethren.

Tip #4 - Centre Stage

The religious individuals love having the eyes of others on them, there is nothing better to them than being seen by others. The dire need for the validation and attention of others only substantiates the fact that they go about their days with impure hearts.

But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, Matthew 23v5 KJV

Tip #5 - TALK... ALL TALK

There is no action and no true genuine fruits to show their love for the YHWH. So, in essence there is nothing to back up whatever it is they are preaching because they are hypocrites. Yet will be quick to condemn others and their walk with God.

Another key note is their failure to be mindful that others may not be as far along with their walk following Christ, hence their eagerness to act as judge, jury, and executioner.

Remember that...

Overall, the important takeaway from this is to of course be on the lookout for these types of individuals BUT also to make sure to be looking in the mirror and make sure self reflection keeps you from being overly righteous.

pray and rely on the Lord for guidance when necessary.
